How Wide is the Cockpit (H34)

I'm looking at some interlocking grid squares to put down in the bottom of the cockpit (with trimming of course). So I took all these measurements so I could go home and make a template to then figure out how to cut the floor pieces. Naturally I forgot one critical dimension....the width of the cockpit right in front of the aft lazarette. That's as far back in the cockpit you can get. Does anyone happen to have that number? I won't be going back to the boat for a couple of weeks. Thanks in advance for any help.

Allan...

When I bought my boat, it had the black "Deks" (I think that's the name) grid in the cockpit. After part of the first summer I removed them because they were hot on the feet in mid-day sun, and felt uncomfortable to tender feet. Lastly, dirt collected under them and it was a pain to take them up each time I needed to clean the cockpit sole. I think they're still on a shelf in my garage.

Another H34 in my marina had a teak sectional floor made up and found it much more comfortable and easier to take up to clean under.

Great picture, but I understood that he wanted the measurement along the bottom of the aft cockpit seat athwartships...

Thanks everyone for the responses with the measurements of the H34 cockpit. The numbers I took in the other areas check out, so that was great confirmation.

We saw this material on Amazon but I am not quite sure if it offers any advantages to the existing deck.

We are looking for an anti-fatigue material that will drain through and be both comfortable for people and dogs to stand and lounge on. Dan, I hear your points about being too hot if its dark and hard to pull up and clean under.

At least I can finish my butcher paper template and continue the search.

Thanks again all for the input.

Splax. You're right of course... guessed I just skimmed it... I just measured that.. I came up with 64 1/2" from Port to starboard and amazingly came up with the same width going from Starboard to Port. so I wonder which year they stopped the wide body version...hmmmmm

Allan, I came across this in my Aug/Sep Boat U.S. magazine - SeaDeck Marine Products. Looks like a possible solution. Color choices to address the heat concern. Not sure of durability with doggies thought, but perhaps worth a look. Lots of DIY videos of removal and installation etc. http://www.seadek.com/default.aspx

Allan, we had the interlocking grid on our H34 but after heeling a couple of times the grid actually slid under your feet and bunched up. I didn't want to screw them down. It did look great but up they went...Now stowed in a box on the shelf. If I can find some pictures I'll post them.,

Thanks Bub. That would be a problem I see with the cushy material. Easy on the feet though I bet. Part of our desire is to quit sliding around on the supposed non-skid surface as well (which we seem to do a lot here). The Tech Floor is more rigid and I hope if I get it tight enough to the sides of the cockpit it shouldn't move. The pattern is supposed to have anti slip characteristics.

We bought one box of 10 squares to try out. That came right away.It looks like one more box should do it. So we will go ahead with the experiment. That second box is now back ordered of course.

From the last picture, I didn't need to measure the cockpit....all I needed to do was measure the dog at home!

We also know that feeling. Both of our Yorkies think we are nuts when we do things to the boat.
