The plexi/lexan on the forward bomar hatch cover (over V-berth) has finally broken (there were numerous stress fractures). I have found a place that will replace the lexan if I bring it in, but I cannot get the hatch cover off!!! The pin (which connects the hinge) seems to be corroded into the cover and the hatch housing. I'm thinking of cutting it then drilling out the parts in the cover and hatch housing, then replacing with a s/s bolt and wing nut assembly. Any suggestions, ideas, or past experience? As usual, many thanks for all your past assistance. Bob 1983 Hunter 33 - Cherubini

Lexan Replacement

Bob..I replaced the V-berth hatch lexan on a 25.Was able to "pop"the old lexan out with several fist punches from below.Obtained and cut a replacement piece(easy to cut with a jig saw or saber saw),and seated it with black silicone. There was not a screw or bolt attached to the lexan on mine.

Bomar hatch

I could not get the hatch off my C30 but the frame comes off the boat with a putty knife and could probably use some new sealer anty way.I changed my Plexi glass with the frame in the boat ,dont use lexon it is strong but very soft, and will scrach easy.I poped the glass out after cuting around with a knife. Then cut a new piece with a jig saw and smoothed it with a sander. The frame cleans up with a soft wire wheel on a grinder or drill, clean the alumunim with acatone. Tape the frame with blue tape to keep it clean , then place the new glass in the frame and trace around the inside of the frame with pencel.Cut the paper skin on the new plexi where the sealer will go, remove the paper a sand the smooth off the plastic so the glue sticks. There is better stuff to stick the plexi with then silacone but i cant remember the name. spluge the frame with the sealer and drop in the new pannel in, smooth it with a plastic spreder and let cure untill it skins over.then peal the tape and let is dry for 24 houres .The plexi i used was called dark smoke 1/4" thick. This took about three hours with the boat on the mooring.I lost some tools over board.but found them later. John

Thanks!

Many thanks. I found someone who knew exactly what these are. They have a soft metal roll that is punched into the hole so that it expands and fills the space entirely. They come out with a punch as well, or can be cut then punched out. A replacement s/s bolt and wing-nut do work as a replacement. Again thanks for the replies. Bob
