It's time to swap out our throttle cable and wondering if anyone has any insights as to how and where to source the replacement?
We have a Yanmar 2GM20(F) with an Edson pedestal on a Hunter 33 1981.
Are there any options for a more flexible cable?
The existing cable is a shiny gray thick plastic outter sheath which when split open reveals some rusty wire housing that winds around, along the axis of the inside cable -- very tough to work with.
Many thanks for any suggestions, advice, or ideas.

Bob:

Teleflex has some newer cables that accept shorter radius turns. Contact one of the Teleflex dealers for some advice.

Replacement Cables

I had to replace both cables on my Yanmar 1GM. I used these guys and got a replacement for the throttle and actually got the same cable for the gear to replace a heavier one.

What I did to find out what I needed was simply pull the cables, measure, find the name and order. After some web search I found these guys had the best price. (2008) Ordered, got replacement cables for $20.15 each; Both for $49.59 including shipping. I got two Teleflex 33 series CC17208 8 foot cables. The original are different sizes but the threading and inner core are the same. Edson recommends these for both throttle and clutch, but they charge $88 per cable at that time.

I've just started the same project, Yanmar2GM20F/Edson pedestal. If you've already gotten the cable out of the pedestal, you're ahead of me. The job is made more difficult by both cables being joined in a bracket on the aft side. Edson recommends turning the wheel to port (I think) to gain some clearance. Have you disconnected from the Edson end yet? If so, I'd love to hear how that went.

Knowing my limitations...

Hi Tom
thanks for the heads up...nope, haven't even disconnected the cable from either end, and nor will I. I have a great resource here in a friend who has oodles of years of marine mechanics experience. I will sub-out this project to him, and learn from his efforts. Thanks for the heads up re: turning the wheel.
Was hoping to find a much more flexible cable/housing. Have you bought your replacement yet?
thanks
Bob
