Do any of you 356 owners know how I can tighten the friction or any other means to prevent my throttle from creeping back when at high forward throttle settings? Thanks. Ivan

Edson Sells A Cable Clamp

for a modest price that goes near the lever control. It induces some friction into the system. I doubt you have an Edson system, but a cable's a cable. It differs from a simple stainless cable clamp in that it has a larger body that will not crush the cable. Rick D.

Our problem too

We have the same problem on our new 356. When the dealer's technical guy comes to work on our punch list next week, I hope that we will have a dealer-recommended solution. I'd be happy to post it. You might also consider posting this question on the "big boat 34+" forum. It might be read by more 356 owners.

Clamp

The dealer put a clamp on our cable near the motor. Had to tighten it a few times before it worked. Dan Jonas (S.V Feije II)

98 cent throttle creep solution

Almost every sailboat I have ever chartered and or owned has throtle creep. The univeral solution is a simple, cheap bungee cord. Works every time, never fails. Installation time; 5 seconds.

I had the problem...

I had the same problem (consistent among most Yanmars) until I replaced the throttle cable with a higher quality Morse cable as part of normal preventive maintenance. Prior to that my simple solution was to use a light cord with a loop on the end. The loop went over the throttle handle and the other end was secured to the binnicle guard with a clove hitch. When I set my throttle, I adjusted the clove hitch to prevent the creeping back. Basically, the reason for the creep (at least on my Yanmar 3HM35F) is that the throttle lever (on the engine, which the cable connects to) is spring loaded to return to the lower throttle setting. Then it eventually creeps back to the lower RPM's.

Me, too...

I had the exact same problem you describe during initial "sea trials," reported it to the dealer, and it was fixed shortly thereafter. Don't know what they did, but it worked.
