This is my first post so hello. I need some specific info so here I am. I have a 1981 Hunter 27 and I am trying to figure out where the cable is routed for the wind instruments on the top of the mast. I just got new Garmin stuff but dont know how it routes threw where the mast would sit and in the cabin. I assume around the compression post but dont see anything anywhere.

I just finished installing a new wind instrument on my 1981 Hunter 30' so maybe I can help. The old cable ran along the port side of the cabin under the settee up and under a panel over the head door way. You must remove the screws to remove this panel. The cable then ran up a small pipe through the deck into the bottom of the mast. This pipe is a bit hard to get through because it has a 180 degree bend at the top to keep out water and it also has all out the electrical cables for the mast. My cable went up the mast through a conduit be hide the mast track so I couldn't get the old cable out or the new one in there with out dropping my mast. I just cut the the old cable out of the way and dropped the new one down from the top of the mast.

Hope this helps.

I have done this as well. You have to remove the mast and the compression post. The wires for the lights, etc run through the compression post (hollow) and down to the floor.

It may be easier and functionally better... to exit the cable near the mast base and into the cabin through the deck with a pair of waterproof "cable clams". Once inside the cabin find a discreet but NON permanent route for the cable back to the instrument panel... Why... because it is not recommended to insert connectors in the pre made N2K cables. The connector end is very similar in diameter to the cable itself. This will allow you to pull the cable out of the cabin, coil it and attach to the mast should you have to take the spar down. The factory installed nav lights will have a connector inside the mast base.

You didn't mention if there is a previous wind instrument cable... but .. since most instruments are after market additions it is unlikely that the sensor cable would run next to the permanent wiring harness. Here is a "cable clam"
