How to rig the boom

Just purchased a 1979, 17 ft DaySailor that hasn’t been in the water for three years. It’s in generally great shape. The one problem I am having is rigging the boom. While I know it fits into the slotted portion of the mast, I am stumped as to how to rig the lines? Of course there are no instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Rigging your Daysailer

Ron - I have seen Daysailers rigged a varriety of ways, but the way I rigged mine is similar to what you'll see if you go to www.daysailer.org and click on the rigging link. See if that makes sense, then pop back by with any questions. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Got the boom but not the Vang

Justin Thanks fot the tip on the web sit, however since I have a OD II the rigging is different than showen in the pictures. I was however able to get everything rigged except the vang. Past owner never used it so he is not much help. There is a line running along the left side of the center board housing which goes into the cuddy cabin and connects to a couple pullys. Another line connects to these pullys and goes out the top of the cuddy cabin (don't know how to attach this line to the block on the boom). Shouldn't there be another block towards the base of the mast?

boom rigging

I have a similar problem to yours. I have figured out how to connect the vang, but the main sheet setup doesn't look correct. I agree with your comment on the original rig info not even close. Did you ever figure it out ?? I'm still sailing poorly set up.

Main sheet rigging, still need vang rigging info

Jack Still haven't figured out the vang rigging. I could just put a block & cleat at the base of the mast and forget about the line going through the cuddy cabin then along the port side of the center board. Main sheet is no problem. I have double pullies on both the boom and at rear of the center board housing with cleats on either side of the lower pully. Sheet attaches permanently to the lower pully, goes up to the larger of the two pullies on the boom, down to the larger lower pully, up to the smaller boom pully, back down to the smaller lower pully. After that it just cleats depending on the tack. If this doen't help let me know & I'll take a picture and send you. Can you give me any feed back on the vang?
