How to rig spinnaker on a 26?

We race several times a week during the summer with the Black Bear Yacht Racing Club. We're doing so well that they keep lowering our PHRF and want us now to race in the big boys. We point very well compared to the other boats but we suck going downwind. We would like to fly a downwind sail. Has anybody rigged a poled-spinnaker on a Hunter 26? If so, please respond promptly. Can you use any of the spec's from the owner's manual? By the way, the BBYRA has set our PHRF at 240. What other PHRF's are out there? Kevin & Eric on "Legacy" kevin.larson@na.aninks.com

Rating sounds high

I think they gave you a generous rating. I just started racing my old 25 and I they gave me a base rating of 225 plus 12 for nonspinaker for a total of 237. Only raced one weekend and finished third out of six both races. I would assume that your 26 is probably a little faster than the 25. I'll check some other PHRF listings. There are no 26s racing on my lake. Regarding spinaker setup, I don't think there is anything special about the 26. You'll need a spinaker halyard, pole topping lift and pole down haul. Sheets and guys are usually run back to blocks at the transom. I'd volunteer to crew for a couple of spinaker rigged boats to get a feel for the setup that will work best on your boat before breaking out the cordless drill. Good Luck

Alternative

Might consider an asymmetric spinnaker, too. Rigging is simpler, sail is easier to handle.
