How to retrieve forward lipseal on combi stuffing box

Hi all.
I foolishly pushed the forward oil seal on my combi stuffing box aft - *into* the stuffing box.

I'm hoping to 'persuade' it back forward to seal the forward end of the box and so keep the bearings lubricated.

I think the gravity-fed oil feed tube attachment on the stuffing box is about where I pushed the seal back to.
This might allow me to pry it forward a few cm with a long thin screwdriver. Then I could use a grease gun to pump the seal forward and then reseat it.

Can anyone improve on this?

Thanks

I did the same thing once, and was able to pump it back out with
grease through a zert fitting on the stuffing box. You can over do it, and
the front seal will pop out of the front end of the stuffing box if you try to
pack in too much grease. Did that too, but both incidence were easy to
correct. The seal has neither a seat nor a retainer - it stays put by friction
and should be square to the bore of the stuffing box. Bad would be if the rear
seal popped out ! I hope you have good luck with it.
Patrick

Thanks Patrick. The problem is that I pushed the front seal fully aft against (I think) the bearings.
I need to move it a little forward before using the pressure of grease to move it back into position.
My idea is to pry it forward via the oil/grease filler hole.

Or is this likely to damage the seal?

Thanks
John
