How to restore exposed components in-place (PICS)

This might not be boat or model specific (Cat 27), but I want to restore the items shown below. What are the Blue and Red arrow components called?

I would like to know products to use and methods to restore in-place these parts. Or is it easier to remove, restore and re-install?

Would there be glue underneath? And re-attaching, would the screws have the same fit going in or does it need to have some sort of compound with the screw?

Mine came off easy all my screws went back in good and I usegd butyl tape and chamfered the holes a little to accept butyl properly

I would just scrub them with a pad and salt water, oil them if you wish. I think it is a more of a preference thing if your teak is gray or orange. Mine had the original laquer pealing off and I just scrubbed them up. They look fine gray and will be less hassle over time. If they don't leak my suggestion leave them in place, why risk causing trouble and add wear and tear to the teak/fastener junction.

Took me one weekend to take all outside tak off and stain it and put it all back on in one evening

Three coats of varnish took me a week.

If you want to varnish it or put other glossy finish on:

Pull it.

Clean and sand it

Be prepared with your finish.

With several white rags, soak them with acetone and scrub the wood untll you quit removing color from the wood, (into the rag)

Wait a brief time until the acetone has flashed and quickly get your first coat on. The acetone step removes the wood oils from the surface so that the finish can grab wood. Otherwise it's like varnishing cooking oil.

If Cetol, follow directions, except for sanding recommendations.

If varnish, consider a high VOC product for the base coats. Jet Speed from Interlux can be applied 2X a day. Finish the last coat using Schooner, also from Interlux.

For either. Consider 8 coats as a minimum. I usually go to 14 or up to 20 depending on the desired final look.

Sand every 4th coat for either system. Don't try sanding every coat. Just move quick enough that you are maintaining a chemical bond between layers.

On you last coat, either varnish or Cetol, do not sand final coat. The best UV properties are had with an as-brushed top coat.

Our first couple of years with dasbOOt we took the time and trouble of finishing them up. Now we are quite satisfied with our aged gray wood just how they are. We have found other things more important.

I think you'll find skippers go through phases with their wood trim. We've gone from gray, to varnish to cetol and now back to bare wood with teak cleaner and brightener every year.

It all depends on what YOU like to see and how much work YOU want to put into it.

I have never taken off my handrails except for the first time and it was the last time. They don't leak, but if they did, I'd take them off and use Maine Sail's butyl tape, not silicone. Reason is they curve when on but want to go straight when removed. Was a two person job to get them back on, and my "crew" like to sail more than work.

hand rails,traveler base block,and hatch cover face,first two come off with screws and nuts from inside,
long thru bolts may be rusted and may need to be replaced on hand rails due to water intrusion this is done by drilling out wood plug from top of hand rail-install new bolt and wood plug cap,then as said drill or dish out holes and use good butyl tape and re bed.
I like finished brite work to each their own, well worth the finished look.

I was just considering removing the handrails on my C27 but was concerned about the through bolts.
What kind of fastener are these?
Please be a little more specific on the removal/replacement process of the handrails.
