I am just about the point in restoration that I can think about the exterior of my Legend 37. I notices that part of the black vinyl on the cabin sides above the toe rail is peeling. I also see that the striping below the toe rail is quite faded. I like to design and would prefer to either replace or repair them. The questions are where do I get new "stuff" as well as how to do the job?

stripes

You can buy the stripes at an automotive supply house, or a plastics manufacturer, but it would probably be easier to have a sign shop cut them for you out of vinyl. If you give them the dimensions they can design it on their computer and cut it for you. Its a little tricky to apply so ask them for instructions, or you can pay them to do it for you, but you are a sailor, and we like to do it ourselves, right?

Bought some from WM

I replaced the striping for my past boat. I did the sheer stripe and the boot stripe with the stuff you can buy at West Marine. I had the boat for 5 years and the stripes still looked great when I sold it. The stripes are very cheap, they come in rolls and available in several colors.

stripes removal

I remember awhile back in the photo forum, a sailor used a hockey puck looking erasor type attachmentfor a drill that was designed to rub off stripes. The tool was used in the auto body trade. I'm not sure if the info is still in the forum but it might be. It looked like a real time saver to remove the existing striping
