i have several portlights on my 1984 31' with plastic knobs that have stripped off the stud so that they either just spin loosly on the spindle so i can't open the port or they are so loose they just fall off the spindle. my question is, What's the proper way to replace them? one of the broken ones is in the head and i can't see how to knock the pin out due to the tight space. i'd hate to have to take the portlight out to do this. any advice? thanks

Just unscrew them.

Bob: Just unscrew them. You may need a vice grip or something to get ahold of the metal sleeve that was inside the original knob. The new ones no longer have the metal insert and will just screw on. The new ones are about $4 each.

Wing nuts on portlight studs

I just used a vise grips like the last response and replaced the knob with a stainless washer and a stainless wing nut and that was the end of that. These are standard size. Never to break or fail again. All the best, Keith
