I chipped part of the cabin sole on my 2004 Hunter 36 and am hoping to do a repair "in place" (without removing the sole). Everything I found from searches is about more serious damage and extensive repairs. Is there a simple way to fix the chipped laminate layer so it looks good to the casual observer even if it's not perfect?

Here is another piece of the floor showing how thin the laminate layer is (the layer to the right in the picture):

Any ideas would be appreciated... thanks,

Andy

Do you have the piece of laminate that broke off? Was the break due to lifting of the board to access the bilge?

I think that corner must have delaminated slightly and then I hit it while replacing the lid over the through-hulls and snapped it off. It didn't come off as one piece and I have only been able to find a small part of it.

Do an internet search on "teak and holly veneer." It is very pricey but most companies will provide you with a sample for $2.00 or so and the sample may be big enough for you. Worth a try. You can't go wrong for that price and you could get one from a few different companies to see if one works better than another. If that doesn't work, you may be able to call one of them and they may have a scrap or damaged piece big enough for you.

Good idea - I saw people selling veneer but didn't know about the samples. I'll take another look.

Thanks.

Try oakwoodveneer.com I know they sell samples for $2.00 Others may too.

You're still going to have to fiddle with the stain on the teak portion to get it to match. I found Minwax "gunstock" as a good match for the teak but you have to keep it off the holly portion. You might buy a sample of the teak veneer too and use it to check your stain. Best bet may be to call them and see if they will sell you a larger "scrap" or damaged piece.

I found this on Utube. If you have all his wax for different colors I still doubt it took him 5 min.
