I have a leak in my aft cabin, port side near the window. I believe I have the source in the deck/hull joint as I have found a dirty brown area in the white caulking about 2 in long. The rest of the long joint is white.
I have had several opinions on repair method. A major decision is whether to open the rub rail on the outside and seal from there or leave it alone and seal from the inside.
The rub rail is the older style without a steel band and screws - it is simply a pressure snap seal. The rail is also one continuous piece from the stern to the bow. It was suggested to cut the rub rail on one side of the leak, peel back, seal and repush the rail into place. This will leave a cut line in the rubrail and I'm concerned the rail may not push back into place given its age.
If possible I'd prefer to work from the interior.
Does anyone have experience and can outline a procedure? I am not very experienced in doing boat repairs so a step by step would be helpful.
Thanks everyone.
