I have 10 or so areas with hairline cracks that look similar to a spider web. They appear to be superficial (not deep) but not very Bristol. Any methods to repair them myself? Any way to prevent more from happening?

Cracks

Hmmm, your thread is a bit quiet. A local surveyor told me that these cracks are superficial, but if they are bothersome you can take a Dremel tool with a pointy "V" tip and make a small channel along the crack. Then use a gelcoat repair kit to blend a color match and fill the "V" void with the repair material. Sand and buff smooth and the crack is gone.

Disclaimer...I have some of those cracks on our boat, I've had the repair kit in question for six years now and I have yet to take on the project. Too busy sailing.

I may be wrong . .but I have a boat with some spiders and I tried using Super Glue Gel to seal these openings . .the idea was to do something quick and yet to try to seal out moisture and stop any water damage . .it . .appears to work . . Wayne

If the spider cracks are really minor, you may want to try using "Captain Tolley Creeping Crack Cure." This is liquid epoxy that goes on white, but dries clear. I suggest filling the cracks as best you can using the small nozzle on the bottle, and quickly cleaning up any excess after it seeps into the cracks. The excess has a tendency to turn yellowish from the UV rays. This stuff won't fix the cosmetics of the cracks, but will seal out moisture.

Matching gel coat us an art and not a science. If you don't do a good job matching the color it will also not look too "bristol". I would suggest you try one spot that does not show before you proceed.

My glass guy also suggested leaving this type of stuff alone.

I used Capt Tolley to seal the cracks on my deck just as above mentioned. BIG mistake. The "sealant" turn dark greyish/black after couple of days. Now I have couple of these blackish lines around my deck. Couldn't get rid of it short of sanding the gelcoat down. Now I just leave the cracks alone.
