Hi folks, We have a 94 Hunter Legend 35.5. I'm attempting to service the exhaust elbow. Can anyone tell me how the panel behind the engine is removed? I've taken out the screws from the trim and its still firmly attached. All the wood is still in great shape, so I didn't want to force anything.
Is there any easier way of access?

TIA
RIch

I have a 1994 Hunter 40.5 so it may not be the same. Look for the subtle difference in grain indicating where there are wooden "plugs" or "bungs" that cover screws. Find those that look like they may be the right ones and then drill out the wood. You can buy teak plugs on line. be careful when you drill them out that you are centered and don't bugger up the edges.

A trick for removing bungs is to use a drywall screw. Carefully drive the screw into the bung with a drill. It will cause the bung to pull out.

Regarding the bungs: drill a small hole in the center and drive a screw into it leaving enough exposed so you can grab it - you can usually then pull the bung out or at least most of it. Pick out any remaining pieces being careful not to damage the edges of the hole as smokey says.

@dlochner and @dmax Wish I would have asked before I tackled this job. Was able to do it okay with the drill out but would have been much easier and with less risk of damaging the surrounding panel. Thanks for the tip and I'll use it the next time this may come up.
