How to Remove Old Decal Shadow?

Just purchased our boat and it had its previous name removed by the last owner. We were wondering if there is any way to remove the shadow that still remains on the transom? We would like to know if anyone has had any luck doing this? Any ideas out there or is the fiberglass permanantly stained?

Try A Light Rubbing Compound

Like 3M, Aurora, Starbright, Island Girl etc.or any light duty marine Fiberglass cleaner. The secret is to remove the shadow, created by the surrounding area fading due to UV. Take it easy and try a small area first, keeping the soft cloth moving and not rubbing to hard in one area.Don

Removing Old Boat Names

A friend of mine in the Boat Lettering business suggested using Easy Off oven cleaner to remove painted on lettering. Tried it and it works perfect. Lightly buffed the remaining shadow with a rubbing compound. Don't do this on a windy day, as the cleaner might blow back on you. Obviously take necessary precautions and have running water standing by.
