I went out on a friends boat yesterday for his first sail of the year. He had just replaced his mainsheet tackle. I looked at how it was reeved and it did not look correct but it was not obvious to me how it should be run. I attached a picture of the new bottom blocks that are attached to the traveller. He also has two more large blocks on the boom about a foot apart. Right now there is no line going around the large center block in the picture. There are 4 lines going to the boom so I suppose he has a 4:1 tackle but it seems hard to haul in. I have never seen one of these block clusters used before, anyone else using one ?

I would reeve it as follows: Attach one ned of the mainsheet to the bail of the bottom block. From there reeve it through one of the blocks on the boom, then the single (big) sheave on the bottom block to the other block on the boom and then to the two small sheaves on the bottom block, exiting through the cam cleat.

Cheers

I have the exact same block, and Bob has it spot on. The block, as pictured, is upside down. Flip it over, follow Bob's instructions, and your friend should be good to go.
