How to raise and lower outboards, reliably

The 15 horse Johnson outboard on my transom is raised and lowered by an increasingly unreliable electric motor. I have been unable to trouble shoot the problem, and right now she is resting in her slip with the outboard stuck in the up (out of the water) position because of the electric motor (or maybe it's the bracket to which it and the outboard are attached). Anyway, I'm ready to try something else, including a manual approach. Does anyone out there have any good suggestions on where to buy a bracket that will reliably raise and lower an outboard, either electrically or manually?Thanks,Mike Obel

9.9 with a manual lift

I have a 9.9 OMC with a manual lift. I just lean over the stern and lift when in the slip or sailing. Sure helped, when the battery died last month and I had to pull start the engine in 100 temps at 6:30 at night and no wind.EJ

Raising and Lowering Outboard

MIke, I just bought a motor mount and bracket today on eBay for $150.00. It will ship from WA state, but it has a spring to help lift it and a 4 position locking mechanism. It is aluminum and I hope it works well. I have had to raise and lower my little 3HP and even that can be back breaking when it won't stay in the position you place it.Do try eBay.
