How to modify a trailer?

How does one know the length or height of the rollers/bunks that support the boat whiule it rests on its keel? That is, is there an easier/safer way thanpulling the boat in and out of the water while making adjustments? I guess the only REAL way to do it is with a lift. I guess what I am really asking is whether or not anyone has measurements etc that could remove all, or most, of the trial and error involved..... Thanks in advance, Adam O'Day 23

Trailer fits

Hi Adam, The easiest way is to use a lift to hold the boat level on the trailer and then adjust the bunks, etc., up to stabilize the hull. Be sure the weight is mainly on the keel support. The guy on the related link knows where there's a lift in NJ. If you can't find a lift close by, find an O'Day 23 owner near you and measure their trailer. Happy sails _/), MArk

You know what...

Hello, First off, I have to assume that you can weld up, drill and tap alumiminum, if not well then find someone who can and does, who is clean shaven, the later being the trickiest part... For a 22 to 27, you can modify a Road-Runner, dual axle, or similar trailer with a two point to four bearer roller system per the photo I hope to upload here... The trick is to wait until your next bottom paint pull, measure up the jack stands and what not, and apply same to a ladder frame, I know this is not the be all answer you are looking for, but it is how I intend to build a trailer for my 22, say next millenium... Also, if you can 'play the game' and find the back entrance to a trailer manufacturer on a 'smoke break', you can inevitably find a guy with a truck rig who can do you up over a couple of weekends, but make sure he is clean shaven... Once you delve into the dark world of trailer makers, you will see thats it's not such a big deal, but more like walking into a Harley rally trying to sell trinkets... Best of luck, and be brave... If I can find a more direct link, I will post it in a direct way, 'cause I want what you want... SH.
