I have a 1999 benateau 361 and the wood on the seats has been treated with something but looks brown and tired. What is the best way to make them look nice again? The wood itself seems to be fine.

I just did the seats on my `99 352 a couple weeks ago. I masked off the gelcoat around the wood, sanded off the old finish with a random orbital sanders and put on a new finish. I have three coats of varnish down now and will add two more this season.

Which product is best to use is the subject of a whole new thread. There will be those that think you would be better off removing the old finish and then doing nothing at all, just let it weather naturally. Not my choice but it is a lot less work in the future.

I like to keep teak easy. As my brother says "teak should be left on trees".

I use cetol natural and I can hear the moans already. But it seems to last and easy to reapply.

To each his own. I have to admit that a nicely varnished teak teak looks great but I'll leave that to someone else.

I looked at the new teak plastic decking that requires no maintenance but when you look at it in your hands, it not at that stage where I would want to use it.

Included some not so great pics of cetol natural on my 352.

Enjoy:D

Another vote for Cetol Natural

There are prettier methods, but all require lots more work. I have found the latest Cetol, which is called "natural teak" to look very natural and be very low maintenance. An annual recoat is all that is required here. It might be twice a year in the tropics.

Teak Seats

I have a Bene 473 and am preparing to refinish my seats as well. You do not want to varnish them as they will be slippery. Semco works well. You can wash the teak with a solution of TSP/water which will turn the wood dark. Lighly scrub as needed.
Then use oxalic acid to brighten the wood before treating it with Semco.

You can also uses Semco's cleaner solution. Check out their webiste.
