My Jabsco manual toilet is leaking from the top of the pump when pumping. I tried to purchase a repair kit but there are a few depending on the toilet. I am not sure if this is the original toilet or it was replaced by the previous owner. Is there a way to determine the repair kit I need?
There are 3 different Jabsco kits: 29045-0000, 29045-2000, 29045-30000.
I heard that the label color may be an indicator. See pic. Thanks

Here is something from Jamestown Distributors that speaks to your question. :
STEVEN S: Hi Owen,
Does your head still have the stickers by the pump handle?
I have a 1988 Newport. The previous owner mentioned that he replaced the head at some point. I knew it was not the twist -n-lock model as that was 2007 to present. I gambled that it was a 1998 or newer model.
When the service kit package (29045-2000) came there was a sticker on the package that shows the 3 models. The picture shows a rectangular red sticker by the pump handle on the 1986-1997 models. The 1998-2007 model has a lighter blue oval with a dark blue arrow and white letters which matched my head. I am not sure why they do not show this info in the catalog. Hope this info helps you identify your model.

From what i see, yours is not a twist lock and has the blue sticker so it is probably a '98-'07 model. I found that I could buy the whole pump for about what the repair kit costs ..I think you can put in a new twist lock upgrade on your base with no problem, but ya need to research that one a little .. Maybe call Jabsco and ask.. I took the little pump shaft lip seal out to a bearing supply place (like Motion Industries) and bought 3 of 'em for a few dollars.
This one comes with a new base gasket and joker valve.

I rebuilt my other pump and have it as a ready spare.

Got tired of working on our Jabsco. We named it "John Wayne" because it wouldn't take S##T from anyone. Bought a Raritan from this site.

I bought the entire replacement pump on our 1996 model Jabsco that converted to the twist lock. Went almost 6 months before I needed to repair it. I was all set to convert to the Raritan pump they sell on this site for about $220 when the bowl cracked. Had to buy a new complete toilet hence the Raritan.

Jabsco Pump

Yes, you are better off replacing the pump assembly. In my opinion, the newer twist-lock pumps seem to be of a higher quality.

There is a problem with rebuilding which may already be a problem in your pump. the fasteners holding the top of the pump cover to the bottom often fracture and result in leaking from the seam. this can occur even if you are very careful.

I suggest searching on this site since I believe they can ship to you, or check carefully local sources where you are. Pump assemblies can generally be had for about the same price as a rebuild kit.

Good luck!

You can keep your bowl and upgrade to a Raritan pump, it's really a great way to go, thanks to the Head Mistress Peggy Hall:

If you don't want to mess with the constant yearly failure of the Jabsco Compact head, the Raritan PHII pump is far superior and super reliable.

Those old Jabsco heads are always on sale for a reason. :(

As others have pointed out, there are other brands that are MUCH more reliable.

We put up with a Jabsco on our prior boat -- rebuilding it almost every season for ten years. Current boat has a Raritan that goes more than a decade with no problems at all.

One of the best reccommended methods for repairing a Jabsco is to fling it forcefully over the side, in waters so deep that it cannot claw its way back to the surface.

Location, Location...

... not sure you guys noticed, but unless there is two of them, our friend is on the central coast of Israel. I'm sure Dave can ship there but it might be some expense.

Thank You all.
I have decided to go with the Jabsco Twist&Lock unit 29040-3000, hoping it will fit my existing toilet. I am not sure paying 3 times for the Raritan unit is worth it. My existing Jabsco unit lasted for 15 years without any mintenance, with moderate usage. BTW, this Jabsco unit is used on all charter boats I have been sailing in Greece recently.
Regarding shipping costs to Israel, that is an issue, but I work around it by ordering the parts to a US address and bringing them with me or a friend who travels.
Again, thanks to you all.
