just bought a 1990 Hunter 35.5 and we are trucking to our lake. The mast is up and tuned. any suggestions of how to get the same tension I was thinking of measuring between the toggle bolts or taping them?
any issues with the furling. I have a pro furl which is above Deck
Thanks Floyd

I had my rigging tuned by Steve Pettengill formerly with Hunter Marine. He told me if I needed to take mast down just release the forestay, do not touch the stays. Then just reinstall the mast and re tighten the forestay.
I have not tried that but seems like a plan.

Keeping the tune

Just disconnecting the forestay works if you have a B&R rig. Also, it means you have to get the mast down and store it without disconnecting the rest of the stays. It can be done. I put tape on all of the turn buckles to mark the their locations. It all depends on how perfectly tuned you need it to be.

We take ours down annually for winter haul-out. Just tape the threads on each turnbuckle....works fine. Also the rigging all disconnects easily from the mast (on our 340 at least) which might be good for shipping too. Label each segment tho to avoid a lot of head scratching when putting back on...with all the diagonals in can be a little confusing!

the taping of the turnbuckle screws is a good way to get it back close but you might want to invest in a loos gauge and use it to fine tune them in order to get a balanced tension on the rigging weather you race or not it is best to have a balanced load on the rigging ei if you have 8% of breaking strength or tighter for racing ....just my personal preference to have a balanced load

I have heard of using fingernail polish to mark the position on the threads of the turnbuckles. I've never tried it though.

That's a good idea, but could be considered to be too permanent. I use a yellow Crayola crayon.
