How to fix (then protect) centerboard and rudder

Recently while sailing in an unfamiliar lake, I hit some stumps or something and damamged the centerboard gel goat. How do I work on the centerboard? Is the raw fiberglass that is exposed a serious problem? What's the best way to fix it? Is there a way to protect it better (I know PWC use some kind of material to protect their hulls when beaching)? Thanks, Mike

You need to add a few new layers of fiberglass. Yes water will delaminate if allowed to penetrate!!! Keep the boat out of the water until it is fixed. Allow a long dry out period, like all winter! Expoy and rebottom paint.FRESH warn water is the worst for penetrating the glass!Good Luck!
