Can anybody give me some advice on how to brighten up old halyards, sheets, and other random line on the boat? I have heard to put them in a tub with some bleach and fabric softener. I don't want to harm the line, so I wanted to check around to see people's methods. Please be specific--1 part Bleach to 100 parts water, etc. Also, is a washing machine too much stress on the lines? Thanks Josh

Josh, I put mine in the washing machine.

I have a mesh dive bag that I put my lines into and them wash them with regular washing detergent and a cup of bleach. ted

WASHING LINES

I wash mine in the machine on the regular cycle.I use Tide with a Downy rinse.Works great.I think I would have to do some more checking before I tried bleach.

Wash machine OK

We always wash lines in the wash machine in a mesh bag.We use laundry detergent with some Oxy Wash thrown in to brighten.Works fine.

How about OXY Clean

My anchor line looks awful. I'm thinking of throwing it in a bucket of oxy clean for about 24 hours. Works great with cloths, and it's gentle enough yet effective.
