Our Nissan 9.9 died and we had to replace it.
Now I have a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke. I would like to connect it to charge the battery as with the previous motor. The old motor was simple enough because it had only 2 wires coming out from the rectifier, black and red.
Now, this one has 3, red, green, and striped green/white.
I don't want to experiment with electricity, so doues anyone here has connected a similar motor?

Ron may be right but don't guess if you're still unsure. Ask over at this link or check the harness diagram at the yamaha site. I could look on our 8hp yam for the wiring too.

Curious why you'd block it up making your short shaft less effective. we have a 2004 8hp long shaft/high thrust/alternator/elec tilt that is similar and I believe it mounts flush with the top of the Motor mount. It rarely cavitates but I wouldn't want it any shorter either. The foot is well below the stern line.

Nice OB. Our Yamaha has been very faithful. Mike

Thanks, Ron and Mike.

As for the motor mount, I had to raise it to allow this motor to fit. Its top is almost twice as wide and it did not fit. I did not want to modify the transom of the boat.
The motor is long shaft and although I was concerned with lifting it, so far it seems to be OK.
