I have a 82 Javelin; I live 5 miles down a creek leading to the Chesapeake Bay and sometimes feel like an old viking woman..when the wind dies, I row. So, after amny years of this i just purchased a 3.5 Nissan, 20" shaft. There are two pieces of vertical wood in the middle of the transon, so I suspect a previos owner had an engine... My question is: Where/how do I carry it with me and then do I take off the tiller and move the engine to the center when needed??? Suggestions and advice needed!!Thank you.

motor

prob most of us mount the motor to one side, away from the tiller/rudder. would think that the 20" shaft is too long, will work, but the shorter would be lighter. mine is half way between tiller and outer edge, with a extra piece of plywood to make a motor board. I don't like the idea of removing the tiller to be able to run the motor, not a safe idea, too much work in an emergency, and too easy to lose tiller. most tend to just tip motor up when not in use, again too easy to drop motor over the side.

look at mine

Its not a Javilin, but a DS II instead. Mine is a 5 hp and you can see how it loads down the transom. I just recently switched to an electric and it makes a big difference in the weight.
