I put my brand new Catalina 16.5 in the lake yesterday. There was a good breeze today and my nephew and I had a great sail. Question: do these models go over?? I'm used to that in my Laser, but that's substantially smaller and easier to right than this Capri. Any "exciting" moments you could share would be greatly appreciated.

If you've sailed a Laser you'l' do OK.

Use you mainsheet for the throttle and be prepared to turn into the wind until you're comfortable and you'll do fine. Enjoy, Ray

Tipping a Capri 16.5

Last June we turtled our Capri 16.5 in Irondequoit Bay. We had 15 mph winds with sudden gusts over 20. A gust caught us off guard. When she went over she just kept on going to a full turtle. My 27 yr. old Daughter and I worked hard and got her back up. Since then I added two cleats (one near each jib car) and some heavy braided lines with loops tied in. Now if we go over we have a "rope ladder" to get us up on her and the line from the other side for leverage.
