Widgeon weight capability
Steve,I bought a used Widgeon about three years ago and have enjoyed it a great deal, partially because it is so easy to take anywhere, rig it and get in the water--compared to my homemade 18 footer. I and my sailing partner are big people (I'm 220 pounds and she is 180,)and we have sailed the little boat in the Gulf with a 2.5 outboard attached on it and it sailed well in choppy two-foot seas and a 10 to 15 mph wind. However, we didn't push our luck and came in as the wind began blowing harder. I think the Widgeon would also sail fine with three adults or two adults and two children. I would give it a try in a safe place. The only problem is space. We like the O'Day design and have also just bought an 1977 ODay 25. Ron Crowe, rongcro2@juno.com
