removehtml]Does anyone have an idea how much anti-fouling paint it takes to paint the keel of an O'Day 22 or boat of similar size? Just trying to plan the cost for this year's maintenance.Error: Error: expected [/URL], but found [/removehtml] instead[/removehtml]

One coat

One coat will probably take about a 1/2 gallon. On my Oday 23, I cannot get two coats out of a gallon.

Are you painting the keel or as most of us do the entire botttom? I own a 26 ftr oday and 1 gallon does not make it thru 2 coats keel and the rest of the bottom.

That's What I figured

I'm doing the usual pain the entire bottom so it looks like it's the gallon.

Bottom paint

It will make some difference on the kind of paint you use. I used almost one gal. of Interlux Fiberglass Bottomkote on a Oday 240. Dave

Check out Super Ship Bottom Paint

My friend Wayne used Super Ship Bottom Ablative paint and his hull looked a heck of a lot better than mine when he pulled her out last fall. I had used a WM ablative paint and wasn't happy with it. This year I'm going to install the SSB paint because it's thinner and goes further, while giving more protection than other bottom paints. I was able to use one gallon of the other paint on my 222 for the two coats, plus a third coat on leading edges and near the surface of the boot top. I still had a little left over in the can, but what good is it if you can't get the protection that you need? Last August I swam under my boat and had to use a scraper to get rid of the barnacles that were slowing my boat down. It's worth paying the extra money for a better paint.
