I could not find any info in the archives. How much paint should we expect to use repainting the 37 Cutter (2 layers)? Would be nice to have separate figures for botton, topsides and deck. Many thanks, John

Bottom.....

Did ours in January. Two coats with three on the waterline, leading edge and rudder. Two gallons of Z-Spar B-91 (Blue). Had to scrimp the pail though; would have been easier with another quart.

how many gallons?

check the link to interlux paints for all sort of info on paints and they have a formula for calulating what you will need.

H37C bottom-painting.

Dave and Pete have the answers. Just wanted to add that I have been doing nicely with one coat of Trinidad SR. In fact skipped painting the bottom entirely last Spring. I usually do two coats on the rudder and a second coat at the waterline, about two roller widths. I can do this with one gallon. The modified-epoxy seems hard and fast and with only one coat a light sanding before painting prevents buildup. I am in fresh water but when the boat was pulled last Fall the two year old bottom was clean. Paint goes a long way on the decks and topsides. I'll get three coats of Toplac on the cabin sides and top with two quarts, one for the white and one for the non-skid(Off-white). I know this because I have already sanded off most of my first attempt. :)

Below water line

My last two bottom painting jobs have been with Woolsey Neptune, a water based paint. Being water based Neptune is easy to go on, will go over exisiting with a minimum of prep work, and easy on the clean up. Three coats at the water line and two over all. With two gallons there may be a bit left over which I use on the stern section water line (cockpit aft) and on the rudder water line, both areas seem to erode faster than the rest. I have left the boat in the water over the winter and pulled it every other year either for a short haul (powerwash, zinc replacement, and hull evaluation) or for winter layup. The bottom still looks good at the end of season one, starting to show some wear at the end of season two, and repainted at the end of season three but could have probably gone another season.
