From Yachtworld

Just did a quick search on Yachtworld and Hunters from the mid 80's have a displacement of 4500 lbs. Don't know what year your's is, but, they're probably all the same. dave................

Weight and Displacement

The weight given is probably dry empty boat weight for the boat as it left Hunter w/o options. It will probably weigh more on the trailer due to added gear, sails, anchors, batteries, any water absorbed in the f'glass, repairs over the years and so on. You can get specs at the link provided - but the displacement given is most likely bare boat weight - You could call Hunter and ask them.

I dunno

Spec sheet says my 29.5 displaces 7,000 pounds but I'm told it really weighs 6,000. Not sure exactly how displacement correlates to weight.

I think, though I MIGHT be wrong

...displacement is the weight of water (Fresh water?) the hull displaces. The weight of the boat, or hull is the actual weight if you stuck it on a weight scale. I didn't Google this so I could very well be incorrect.

fresh or salt

Displacement is how much the vessel weighs. Fresh or salt makes no difference. It with displace less water if the salinity is high but the weight of the water displaced will be the same as the specific gravity of salt water is greater than fresh. That's why a boat will ride higher in salt water than in fresh.

Actual Weight vs Displacement Weight

Any boat (or anything, for that matter) that floats will displace it's weight in water. The "actual weight" and the "displacement weight" are the same number. And, as stated before, salinity doesn't matter. 5000 lbs of salt water weighs exactly the same as 5000 lbs of freshwater, or even 5000 lbs of feathers for that matter. What will change is the boat's actual displacement. As you put things in it, it will displace more water. Usually, when a mfg refers to a boat's displacement, they're talking about the "dry displacement", no fuel, no water or waste, no add-ons.

your 25.5 weighs

between 4600 - 5400 lbs depending on the added goodies and other things mentioned. If you really want to know exact weight, weigh the trailer empty and then weigh it with the boat on it.

Thanks guys for the info.

I saw before I posted that the 25.5 displacement weight was 4500lbs. But honestly I didn't know if there was a difference between displacement and dry weight so thats why I posted. Thanks for clearing that up. I have had the boat on the market for a while and a potential buyer is looking at it this morning. He is now off seeing how much it will cost to truck it over south of Tallahassee. The wife said as soon as I sell this boat I can by a bigger one! Keep you fingers crossed this guy makes an offer! Displacement

The designer worked with a specific displacement in mind, and that was its weight under "average" conditions for the type of sailing he was designing for, i.e., water and fuel tanks half full, gear and provisions for the number of persons usually aboard (not every berth filled), reasonable ground tackle, etc. It will be noted on his drawings and the design waterline will be right on when it is so loaded.

Boat weight

Re-reading your original question: If you can wait, the crane or lift operator can probably tell you when it's hauled. Most rigs have a read-out.
