How Many Air/Heat Conditioning BTUs Are Required?

We like our creature comforts.

Looking to install one of those High-Faluten Cool-air+Heat-air units.

We need to know how many BTUs are required for a Beneteau 36.7.

Most a/c manufactures will have a worksheet you can use to figure out what you will need. I would suggest your boat will need 16k unit, but with out knowing where you are located and temperature ranges it is not a perfect guess, you may even want two units (12k and 7k) depending on climates.

Selecting A System

There are many considerations that should be taken into account when choosing the marine air conditioning unit that would be most appropriate for your vessel. The items listed below do not include all things to consider, but certainly answer most!

1) First and foremost is determining the size unit (BTU's) needed to produce optimal heating and cooling for your vessel. For below deck areas the formula consists of taking the cubic dimensions (LxWxH) and multiplying this by 14. This calculation will provide you with the ballpark

My B393 has one 12k BTU unit for the forward cabin and salon, plus another 9k BTU unit for the aft cabin.

My 1993 H33.5 has a 16,500 BTU cooling. Works fine here in St. Louis.

BTW ... with the current depression still going on you can negotiate great deals (much less than from 'internet', etc. sources) on 'quality' AC units: CruiseAir, MarineAir, etc. etc. Best deals nowadays seem to be from 'local' refrig. service people and local 'sub-dealers'.
