Has anyone used a 6 H.P. on a 25' boat? My Cherub. 25 has an inboard diesel that won't be repaired until next season, (no one will work on it until August) so I want to hang a kicker on the stern until next year. A friend has a 26' sailboat and he uses a 6 hp. Anyone have suggestions or experience, would appreciate the feedback.

Yup!

My last boat was a Watkins 27'. A boat with a 10' beam, full keel, and weighing in at about 8500 lbs loaded. The standard motor was a 8hp diesel (be aware, diesels have more torque so you can't directly compare them to gas engines). The specs on the H-25 show a lot sleeker, lighter boat. You'll never see hull speed with a 6hp, but if all you need is something to get you into and out of a slip or mooring you should be OK. I have pushed and towed my Watkins a couple times with an inflatable equipped with a 2.5hp two stroke. So if all you're looking to do is get out and sail, your 6hp should work fine.
