How important is a trailer?

We are considering our first sailboat- at 1978 Catalina 22 and it doesn't have a trailer. We don't want to out it in a slip because of the expense, but want to be able to use it several times a year. We have a wakeboard boat we use a ton during the summer, but would like to see if a sailboat would be fun to use in the off season. Any advice?

You will need a slip or mooring

Since the C22 is too big too carry around, you will either need a trailer or will be using professional boat movers. If the boat movers is the case, then you will only want to use them once at the beginning of the season and once at the end. You will need to keep the boat somewhere in the water during the season, and that is a slip or a mooring. The guy that owned my boat (before I bought it) did not have a trailer and paid a few hundred dolloars to have the boat moved to his yard at the end of the season. Regards, Ted

You want a trailer

A C22 should have a trailer. There are many C22s for sale. You will be best off to find one with a trailer. Without a trailer you will have to pay to have the boat pulled out of the water and stored at the marina. That is what the big boats do or they stay in the water all the time. It makes sense for the big boats but not a C22. Keep looking.

Found an old trailer

The owner moved out of country and the yearly slip rental is due so they want to dump it... free. I have an old boat trailer that could be modified to fit the boat, but it will take some head scratching.
