I cannot find this on google but does anyone know the sailing speed of America, the boat that won the first Americas Cup? If i remember it was a lot faster than i had thought.

Slight hijack - The winner of the first America's Cup race was Magic. America won the cup in a race around the Isle of Wight. That cup was donated to the NYYC and became the America's Cup.

Not only were the early boats fast but they were capable ocean cruisers. You had to sail the boat to the match in order to compete. Good luck with that now that they have moved on to foiling cats, Steve.

Maybe if they took off the cannons - 2 24 pounders and 1 12 pounder. How cool would it be to have those aboard for your next regatta?

According to Wikepedia, America had a LWL of 89'10''. Rounding it up to 90 I come up with a hull speed of 12.7 knots.
