There is a post here ( http://forums.catalina.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?p=636159#post636159 ), that I responded to. Recognizing I am a relatively new owner of a 310, I thought it would be interesting to get some of you other 310'ers engaged.

The question was:

"My wife and I are thinking about buying a 310.

Has anyone sail a 310 from San Diego to Hawaii or
beyond? "

What are YOUR thoughts?

Interesting question

Have not heard of anyone taking their 310 on extended blue water voyages. You would need for sure to replace the portlights in the hull with something sturdier and I would imagine a few other things to make the boat ready for big seas.

IMHO It's a bay gunk holer, I would be foolish to take here offshore.

Not a 310, but a 320 is a pretty close comparison.
I had the pleasure of discussing the preparation of this boat with James.
We differed on opinions concerning headsail and autopilot choices.
But we coincidentally share many equipment choices between our 310 and the 320 he was working on.
By the way, it is just a coincidence that we share the "atom" handle.
I have run across James in the area several times, and never knew the name of his personal boat. He is always refitting customer boats when we met.
