H34 Spinnaker

Hi Brent! I have a reduced-girth chute for my H34 and was purchased by the previous owner who did a lot of racing. It's a 1.5 ounce for heavy air, which is needed out here in San Francisco Bay. I've flown it a few times and the boat performs very very well! I had a sock installed by my sailmaker and it was worth every penny! It's great to be able to pass most boats on a downwind run! I need a minimum crew of 2 to handle and in the future I may look for a cruising chute for when I'm short-handed. Any way, if you have an opportunity to get one...do it! If you're inexperienced, buy the North Sails video on spinnaker sailing and practice first in light winds. The H34 downwind performance will surprise you! Good luck.

H34 Spinaker info

Because of it's B&R rig the 34 doesnt do as well downwind as some other boats so a spinaker is essential. I carry two, a triradial and an asymeterical. Both are .5oz but i'm in the chesapeake. In a boat with a deck to top of mast height of 46 feet you're talking about a very big sail so i too think that the sock is a good idea. I dont have one but then again I use a tuff luff system instead of rollerfurling. Good luck and happy sailing. Joe S/V Exorcist
