Confused

Hello Fellow Macgregor Owners - My dad had his Mac Gregor 26 sailboat for 7+ years, and we have never towed anything behind it. We would like to tow the kids behind it and have no idea where to hook the tow ropes. Have any of you ever done this, and if so is there a specific place to put the tow ropes. It shows in the video that you can ski behind it - but doesn't show how this is done. Thanks for any help!

Empty boat as much as possible, including ballast. Drop mast and boom and leave ashore or at least the boom and sail. Rig a bridle between rear stanchion bases or rear cleats, and allow it to slack enough to drop down behind motor but not far enough to touch water. Go outside the rudders. Attach your floating ski or tube line to the center of the bridle. Have fun and be safe.

Towing

Do you have to take down the mast, boom and sail? In the video it shows the sail down but the mast and boom are still up?

Try it

The big no-no would be to leave the sail up. Otherwise you could leave the mast and boom in place unless you think they are in your way. You also have to be careful when the ballast is out and your speed is up not to lower the keel or rudders. Not a good idea to do this with more than a couple of people on board. Bottom line: the first time you do this, listen to the boat. If it tells you something is wrong, stop and figure it out.
