Hello,
We have just purchased a 2005 Hunter Passage 456 with refrigerator and freezer (I cannot find a make). The fridge is both top and front loading, the freezer is top loading.
Are there supposed to be baskets or trays to load into. There is a funny 1/2 shelf and then a whole void which is useless, what am I not understanding? I have attached a photo, it’s a big mess as there is nowhere to put anything.
could help me out please, I would very much appreciate it.
Thanks for a great group.

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your new sailboat!!

There should be a grate on the shelf. Suggest installing a grate, if missing and few plastic containers to store/organize food items on them.

Our refrigerator in our h40.5 is similar. We do have a long shelf that runs across the back of the box. We put meat for future meals and things we don't need every day under that shelf. We put a bag of ice right next to the cold plate. On the bottom in front of the shelf we put items to be kept as cold as possible- like milk. We put all of our lunch meat and cheese in a rectangular container and that goes on the bottom as well. Another container of block cheese and snacks also goes in the front on the bottom. Tall items like wine and seltzer go on the bottom away from the cold plate.
On the shelf we stack cans of beer, cream, condiments, yogurt, etc. All of our salad fixings go in a bag on the shelf on the opposite end of the shelf from the cold plate. Eggs go on top to avoid breakage.
Using containers to hold smaller items helps to keep them together and prevents them from falling over and using more space.
I installed a vertical tube with a small computer fan next to the cold plate to suck up cold air from the bottom of the box and blow it across the top to the opposite corner. This helps to keep the entire box at an even temperature. You can see it in the middle picture.
At some point thing still get disorganized and we have to take a few minutes to re-organize. Putting everything in the same places all of the time saves routing through everything to find a particular item. Being good at "Concentration" is helpful!
