Hello, I had been tieing down my tiller with line (rope) off the side cleats. During Ernesto the tension was greater then the rudder cap could hold and the cap busted off (both sides). I am wondering how others tie off? I have gone to bungees thinking play would be better but not sure (would bearing be affected). Looking for any advise on the best way to tie off the tiller (day-to-day and storms). Thanks, Steve

P30 tie down

I have a Pearson 30 and we tie the tiller down and have no problem. We tie it with a line from the side cleats-around the tiller about 2-3 times and once more under-behind and over. This extra turn stops the tiller from rolling port to starboard in a blow. It also locks the tiller midships.Be sure to do all this as tight as you can as a storm will loosen the lines a little.Call me if this is confusing and I will tell you. 617-472-3716
