How do you set up your mainsheet?

As a new Vega owner I'm not entirely happy with how I've got the mainsheet set up, specifically the block at the lower end with the jammer on it.
Firstly, which way up should the jammer go? On mine you pull up to free the sheet, which makes sense when spilling wind, but makes it difficult to actually jam it- in fact it's a two-handed job as you end up chasing the block around on its swivel unless there is loads of tension on the sheet.
Secondly, what angle should the jammer make to the block? At the moment I have it perpendicular, but I did try moving it higher and found that whilst this made jamming off easier, it became almost impossible to uncleat because the whole thing just started swivelling.
Thirdly, has anybody installed a spring to make the block stand up? Like the ones that are used on the genoa sheet leads. I wonder if this would make it easier to use the block with one hand, especially when there's little sheet tension.

Hope this makes sense withou a photo- I'll try to get one uploaded if that helps.

Hi Rob,

I have (what I believe is) an original block. The jammer is on the
underside, so that when you are standing and pull the sheet it automatically
jams. Flip the sheet down to release it from the jammer. It's a one handed
operation with no need for springs.
