I have a lovely '87 Catalina 30 and I would like to rig a preventer on the boom when I am running. There are good attachment points on the boom, but I have never been secure in my choice of deck attachment points. Sometimes I wish for one of the perforated metal toerails. How do you rig your preventer and where do you attach the end away from the boom?

I run my preventer from the boom to where the lower shroud hooks into the deck.

Yes, use the shroud bases

they take plenty of stress from the mast, so you knwo they're secure and strong. Do NOT use a stanchion base.

Hey Stu....I saw a guy rig a preventer directly to his shroud...I didn't think that is something that I would want to do.....That could spell disaster in certain situations.
