I am in the process of painting the non skid deck on my sloop and I was wondering how to mask the curved portions porperly. Do you use a razor to cut the tape to fit once it is on, or is there a better way?

The razor works good if carefull.

Fred, I used 2" wide painters masking tape (blue) for my painting. Use short lengths (3 to 5") to form the radius with about 1/2 to 3/4" overhang on the inside of the curve. I then traced a pencil line where I wanted the curve to be and then LIGHTLY cut it with one of those razor knives that is about 4 or 5" long with the breakable blade for when it becomes dull. Try not to cut into the gel coat. Press the tape back down after cutting and paint on. Use only tape that can be left on for at least 2 days so the paint can dry before removal. Tape pulled off too early will bring paint with it as the paint is very soft when wet. Enjoy. Ray

go to an auto paint supply house and get some "fine line tape" it is a plastic tape similar to electrical tape but, the adhesive is different,it will stretch on the curves. i used 1/4" then overlapped with regular blue masking tape. good luck
