Hi Tom - I don't think it does lock in the down position. According to the manual from Cape Cod Shipbuilders - who are currently building the Daysailor - the centerboard does not lock in the down position - this is so that if you should run aground the board can kick up instead of breaking off. if the boart floats up then i dont know what to say but if it stays down then you certanly should not lock it down. but if the board stays down and only comes up when you hit bottom you dont want to lock it down, you would just have to fiddle with it when you hit bottom
