How do I tighten steering on 1991 Oceanis 390

Just bought boat auto works great I am used to tiller steering and would like it with less backlash

Not quite sure what you mean by backlash. If there is a lot of play in the wheel you can tighten the cable bolts at the quadrant. It should be accessible from either aft locker. If you do tighten be sure to do both sides equally.

Also keep in mind that a wheel will not give you the same immediate feel that a tiller does.

BTW since you're coming from a tiller boat. A good PM item every season is checking the cables along with making sure the eye bolts on the quadrant are locked down with a double nut. Some owners have greased the sheaves and the gear drive behind the wheel - but we haven't had a need to with 4 Beneteaus in 25 years. But we do check regularly anyway.
