I just bought a 1978 Hunter 30 with the self-tending jib. The foot of my jib is 12', but the jib boom is 8'. Help? How do I rig this thing? Thanks!

how about the other sail.

Casey: This is a very common rig for these older Hunters. Almost everyone that was born in the Delta had a self tending jib. I suspect that there is another jib for your boat. The one that you are trying to fit was probably the stand 110%.

I do have another jib...

Hi Steve, Actually, my boats on the hard in Rio Vista -- nice to have someone local to turn to. I do have a 110 or thereabouts, and I figured I could always rig it conventionally for now, although the shroud setup doesn't seem to allow for very narrow sheeting angles. I found a strange cast bronze piece on board the boat whose purpose I didn't know. Then last night I found a photo on the web of a self-tending club-footed jib -- and it appears that piece is used to anchor the jib boom on the fore and aft track just aft of the anchor well. Now I just have to find that piece again... I'll be on the hard in Waltons for another week or two -- stop by for a beer if you'd like.
