How did they get it in there?

I have a 1990 C42 Three cabin model. I have rust showing, and a very minor leak in my hot water heater. The question, how do I remove the old heater, and install a new one? Neither access hatch seems big enough to pass the heater through. I don't want to remove an engine. Thanks for your help..... love the boat!

HOT WATER HEATER FIT

I'm looking at the same issue. If you find a good solution please let the rest of us know. On most boats the heater is put in before the deck goes on. Answer may be a "sawzall" and a new heater of a different configuration [not square]. Many of these boats are reaching the age where the heater is likely to go. A good solution would benefit hundreds of owners in the long run. Good luck.

Heater not really square...

Hey Russ and Gerry-- The heater is really smaller than you think. I had a leak to attend to that required taking off the square housing. It was not easy and required one of those small right-angle screwdrivers to back out the sheetmetal screws. I did notice that there was a lot of insulation in there around a smaller cylindrical tank. I suspect that the parts may well slide out the access ports or over the top of the engine. Good luck Ernie April WindCatcher (C-42)
