I need to replace the teak hand rails on my aging H-27. I know that there are screws under bungs on the top of the rail. Does anyone know if the screws are wood screws into the deck or if they are machine screws under the bungs? If they are machine screws are the screwed into a metal plate in the deck or are they held in place with nuts under the headliner? Any advise or experience would be helpful.... PS: Rather than replace the wood rails with new wood, I'm thinking about stainless steel either 7/8" or 1" any experience of advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Howard of Greenlawn

Screws into plywood core.

Just remove a bung and take out one screw. This will confirm that your Cherubini is like all the rest. Most stainless rails are made with a stud on each end. Those will need to be through-bolted. Or do you plan to make your own? I made new ones from PlasTeak. Then I glassed in hardwood dowels to accept the screws. The screwheads are flush(countersunk) but not hidden. This allows for easy removal when it is time to repaint the non-skid. In the picture all the "wood" is PlasTeak, dorade lid, traveler base, handrail, and trim strip.

We have stainless rails

They were added by a prior owner, but we like them. They are through-bolted. The best way to cover the through bolts on the cabin side is to mount a grab rail in the cabin. We have done this on one side. The rails we have only run aft of the shrouds, since the shrouds themselves are the preferred hold when we are inside them. The result is a great place to sit on the cabin roof - a favorite spot for crew when underway. The second and third pictures in the link below show the installation. David Lady Lillie

Bronze wood screws....

I used to have a 78' 27 and removed and re-seated my rails. the screws were bronze wood screws. over time the srews had corroded (spelling?) down to nothing. I filled all the holes with epoxy and re-drilled and replaced all screws with stainless. Not that big of a job. Good luck.
