How are stanchions mounted on H336?

I'm finalizing the purchase of a 1995 Hunter 336. The survey found that several of the lifeline stanchions are wobbly and need to be remounted. My initial inspection leads me to believe that there is probably no access to the mounting hardware from below. Can someone tell me how these stanchions are mounted? The current owner thinks they use machine screws threaded into nuts that are glassed into the underside of the deck, but he's not sure. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I think if you remove the screws from one of the stanchions you will find machine screws. They normally have alum. backing plates that are drilled and tapped.

Yep, usually machine screws tapped into aluminium backing plates for 2 legs and through the toe rail for stud, directly under stanchion backed with washer and nut, if so equipped. Sometimes deck plates weren't placed exactly right or holes for stanchions were drilled off to one side. Fairly easy to check out, by removing stanchion itself and examining the holes. Problem comes if you can't tap out larger or if plate is out of place and tapped hole just caught an edge.

My concern is that if I remove the stanchion, something will fall off inside the boat that I will be unable to recover. If I understand you correctly, the aluminum plate or whatever is underneath the toe rail is captivated such that nothing will get lost when I remove the screws?

Ok, I went and looked at pictures by owners in the Boat Information section and see that the 336 isn't constructed anything like my 35.5 or the earlier 33.5. The flat areas on deck that your stanchions mount to most certainly have plates imbedded into them to spread the loads and provide strength. Hope you have taken the time to read owner's reviews of that boat. Lots of information, good and BAD, in there from actual owners.
