Any one have any ideas on where to place new house bank of 4 6volt batteries except a locker or cabinet in galley. I am thinking 2 of them over or under the start batteries and 2 of them in the aft end of the quarter birth. Any help will be appreciated.

i have been putting a lot of thought into this as well, other on this site have put 2 under the start battery which seems like a good location (low and centered) but to expand beyond the 2 6v's that will fit there it seems you have to get creative, what is the depth of these (I'm assuming T105's) i thought a battery box in front of the port settee under where the expansion board folds out might work, if you could line the batteries up against the fiberglass it might not be too obtrusive. I plan on building a cheap plywood box and and putting it in place this summer and see if i hate it or get used to it before doing anything drastic
I have a pair of 24's as engine bank on a shelf I mounted just above the shower sump forward of the engine. Just anough space to get my hand in to beat on the shower sump pump. My 3GM 30 misses the batteries by about 3/4". The house bank is two group 27 AGM's. I made another shelf just above the engine bank that holds a group 27 AGM transverse along with the coolant overflow can and a few other odds and ends. The second half of that bank is on another shelf I put in just aft of the engine goilng across the engine compartment. That second battery sits just forward of the fuel tank. Short cable runs and I don't loose any stowage space. If it matters I probably have pictures, although I think I have posted them here before. Ask if you need to see them.
Sam, Thanks I would really like to see them. I have rewired the whole boat and am now ready to install the batteries. I don't want to use up my storage space in the cabin. And yes Rich they are T105's.

Thanks Ed, I can make that work but I still need to place the other two 6 volts somewhere. out of the way, but close.or maybe put all 6 volts there and the start batteries else where.
I guess you already have the batteries. Wondering why several of you are using two 6v batteries for starting instead of one small 12v. You don't need lots of amp-hours, just come CCA.
No Ed, I have 4 6volt batteries for house batteries and also 2 12 volt batteries for starting for a total of 6. I could possibly drop one 12 volt one but I would rather keep it. I am rigging the boat for living on and cruising and will need all the battery I can carry. I am sorry I didn't explain that right.
I have been told not to put batteries in the engine compartment due to corrosion the sulfur exhaust from the batteries will cause to the engine.
Red I called you Rich sorry (typo) could you tell me size of the expansion board for the port settee, A po did away with mine I feel like it should be around 6' by 11 or 12" The cables would have a long run from there and I have been leaning toward the aft end of the Quarter birth. I am doing away with the birth for a refrigerator and storage while still keeping engine access and a chart table. The hot water heater and wast tank is on the other side so I fell like the weight should be ok. Any other idea would be welcome.
Unless you are chronically over charging the batteries the far bigger issue is the damage the heat from the engine will do to the batteries. Engine bays are a poor location for the batteries because of the heat generated by the engine. Heat shortens battery life..
If you have other options try them first and use the engine bay as the last choice..
